Robots Invade Ventana Vista Elementary School

DaVinci Robot Truck

Well, robots aren't actually invading but on September 13th, Mr. Craig Edwards and Dr. Sybil Corning, brought robots to Ventana Vista Elementary School. Both of these professionals use surgical robots as a part of their daily work.

Mr. Edwards sells the DaVinci surgical robot and also trains surgical teams on how to use them properly on their patients. Dr. Corning is a surgeon who uses the DaVinci robot in her surgical practice.

They spent a day at Ventana Vista telling students about the DaVinci robot and how it helps improve surgical outcomes, quality of life for patients, and save lives.

Students also learned about the technology that makes the robot work. They explained the connections between STEM concepts students are learning in school like coding and computer programming and how it helps to develop technologies like the DaVinci robot. Not only did students learn about it but they also got hands-on experience on the robot as well as the simulator that is used for training surgeons.

Students were able to deepen their learning through this experience. They were able to see real-life applications of what they are learning in school. Many students realized a career in engineering, computer programming, or

robot design is a reality for them and this helped spark that interest in them to start exploring pathways to those careers.
