Immersion Students Using Google Classroom in Spanish

Ms. Gulley at Ventana Vista Elementary School wanted her students to dive into technology in the target language of Spanish. So she collaborated with her CTI and began the quest early on this school year with a series of lessons on Digital Citizenship in Spanish where they also learned to login to computers, Google, and Google Classroom with their student logins.

She then had her 2nd graders join her Google Classroom, which they can now do with ease. It's amazing to watch how fast they get logged in to their student accounts on the MacBooks and into their Google Classroom. Faster than some adults!

Through her Google Classroom she had students access an online graphing tool where each student created their own graphs, with titles, labels, and keys appropriately labeled. They used a data set that they also created in class as their data source. When finished they went back to previous data sets and created more graphs because they were so excited and engaged by the work. So cool!

Another great example of tech integration is Ms. Gulley has students creating food chains and answering analysis and extension questions, in Spanish, using Google Slides. The objective was: I can explain the food chain. Students created food chains in Google Slides, then merged complex food chains, and answered questions and explained the food chains in Spanish to create a Google Presentation. Ms. Gulley was able to share this work with parents during PTCs because it was all done through Google Classroom!
